Letter from the Board of Directors MARCH, 2020
Greetings from your Board,
We hope this update finds you healthy and happy in these first months of 2020.
Many of you may know that 2019 was a challenging year for United Emmaus. We found ourselves in a deficit after the spring walks and had to turn to you, the community, to put us back on solid financial ground. Years of taking in just enough to cover the basic expenses of walks left us with not enough to cover recurring operating expenses.
We, the board, feel the community needs to know how much it costs to operate so you can understand the importance of continued giving and “feeding the rooster”. You will find a budget prepared by our treasurer Kelly Haynes. She has noted all the recurring operating costs as well as walk expenses.
In an effort to save money, we looked at expenses and found items to cut that were not necessary or that could be covered by volunteers rather than pay someone for services. We made adjustments to our menus to save money while making the food more agreeable to those with gluten sensitivities but still being tasty. We also trimmed the amounts purchased. Pricing from vendors was looked at and to save money more shopping is being done by individuals. We also looked at our walk sites and worked to find the best location and negotiate a fair price.
More specific info is available in the attached budget. While we did not prepare a full financial statement, one will be provided upon request to the Treasurer or email@example.com
Spring walks are just around the corner.
