Q. How do I get to serve on a team?
A. The process of chosing members for walks is dictated by our by-laws as follows: Walk team members are chosen by the process of 1/3 members with no prior service, but willing to serve in any capacity and having been a member of the community for one year, 1/3 members with some service and active in the community, their churches and in their reunion groups, moving towards becoming an experienced server, 1/3 members having experience as either a CHA, Prayer Room, Assistant Table Leader, Table Leader, Music with the prospect of becoming a future Lay Director.
Q. What is Kairos? How do I get involved with Kairos?
A. Kairos is a prison ministry patterned after the Walk to Emmaus, with weekends for inmates facilitated by a team going inside prisons. There are opportunities to serve on a team, work in the kitchen, and attend Closing. Team members need to be a certified volunteer thru the State of Tennessee. To apply for team membership click here and select Team Application beside the Kairos icon. To volunteer to work in the kitchen you need to contact the kitchen coordinator assigned for a specific weekend. To attend closing, you must sign up ahead of time and agree to allow a personal security check to be run.
Q. Do I get a refund if my Pilgrim withdraws?
A. Sponsor fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
Q. What happens if my Pilgrim has to cancel?
A. Pilgrims are allowed only two cancellations and are automatically dropped from the list after the third cancellation.
Q. What are the age requirements for Flights and Journeys?
A. For Chrysalis Flights: age 15-18 (from rising 10th grade to the summer after high school graduation) For Chrysalis Journeys: age 19-24
Q. What service opportunities are there for past Walk Lay Directors?
A. After having been a Lay Director there are many opportunities to serve in the community in various job descriptions such as: Serving on the board as Secretary, Treasurer, Community Lay Director. Also, serving on walks as Kitchen coordinator, serving in the capacty of Chairperson of different committees, of which there are current openings (Set up and take down) (Agape send off) These openings can be a single person, a couple, two couples, or a reunion group to be responsible for these positions.
Q. Can I bring my kids to United Emmaus functions?
A. Yes, for most community events, including Walk Send-off and Closing, and Gatherings. Parents are encouraged to use childcare that is provided free for these events. Childcare is not provided for Candlelight. For safety and contractual reasons, children are NOT allowed at the Camp.
Q. Can I bring a non-member spouse to Gatherings?
A. Yes, non-member spouses and other guests may attend any gathering with a member. There may be times just prior to a Walk when non-members are asked to go with a designated member to another room while Walk business is being discussed. They will then return for the remainder of the gathering, including the fourth-day talk.

A. A Community directory can no longer be ordered on the web site. A searchable directory, however, is available on the web site for members who have received the access codes. The codes can be obtained by subscribing to the Directory List Server.

A. Newsletters are published and uploaded to the web site. Most Emmaus Community members read the newsletter online. Others choose to receive it by US mail.
