The following is a letter from our Community Lay Director and the United Emmaus Board:
Hello, United Emmaus Community!
It's hard to believe, but we are only a bit over a month away from Women''s Walk 144 September 12-15 and Men's Walk 145 September 19-22! At this point, we have only six total pilgrims combined ! REMINDER -- we MUST have a minimum of 20 pilgrims in order to proceed with a Walk. Be in prayer for the Community to rise up and provide fruit for the harvest, remembering the words of our Lord: The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37, Luke 10:2).
It is time to search our congregation, neighborhood, and workplace for prospective pilgrims! We are looking for those people who are already attending church who appear to be ready for that next step toward active, vital Christian discipleship.
We must remember -- the Walk to Emmaus is not for everyone. It cannot rectify every problem marriage, enthuse every disenchanted church member, or make saints of sinners. The Walk to Emmaus is designed to provide an intensive focus on all aspects of Christian discipleship aimed toward transforming Christian believers into true disciples of Jesus Christ.
We hope you''ll consider sponsoring one or more pilgrims for the next two Walks. Go to the website, unitedemmaus.org now and download application(s). While you're at it, check your contact information on the database and correct if needed. If you have trouble signing in, please let me know by phone or email at wgates37686@gmail.com.
Also take a moment to review our responsibilities as a sponsor. Our sister community in North Carolina, Blue Ridge Emmaus, suggests:

Also take a moment to review our responsibilities as a sponsor. Our sister community in North Carolina, Blue Ridge Emmaus, suggests:
- Obtaining a copy of the What Is Emmaus? booklet from Upper Room. You may order directly by calling (800) 972-0433. Share the highlights with your pilgrim to help him/her learn about the blessings of the weekend.
- When approaching a married person, talk with both husband and wife so they can make their decisions together.
- Assure your applicant that you are personally interested in their attending; bring them to send-off and help with their luggage and registration.
- Make yourself available to your pilgrim's family . . . for emergencies, fellowship time, and spiritual support. Make sure the spouse has your phone number for emergencies. Let the family know that you love them and want to care for them.
- Consider paying your candidate's application fee and afterward encourage him/her to pay that forward for another candidate in the future
- Finally, pray for your candidate before and during the weekend. Write a personal agape letter and secure agape letters family, friends, and co-workers. Support your candidate with your presence at Candlelight and Closing.
